EXTENSION CORD

Extension cords made by a Long-Established Wire Manufacturer

Ohara Co., Ltd. is a long-established factory that has been manufacturing electric wires in Higashiosaka for over 50 years. In recent years, many wire factories in the area have gone bankrupt due to the increasing number of companies importing inexpensive wires from overseas. Toyokazu and Yasuyuki Ohara, are highly trusted by the industry for their high-quality products and flexibility in dealing with small lots. We decided to make extension cords so that people can use Ohara’s high-quality electric wires in their home environment.

Honest and functional

The design of the three types of extension cords - cross, straight and rainproof - is honest, functional, with no unnecessary details. The high-quality VCT cable, capable of withstanding high voltage, is soft, smooth and easy to handle even with its larger diameter. In addition, the electrodes and the body are integrated into a single unit, making it durable enough to withstand use not only at home, but also in stores, construction sites, and outdoors. The design, made of a single material from the body to the cord, is discreet yet charming.

Designer's voice

Electric wires are important infrastructure that supports modern society and they are anonymous products. After visiting the company in Higashiosaka, I became a fan of Mr. Ohara and his son's commitment to craftsmanship, openness, and warm personality. I felt that the wire made at this factory is a little different from others. The wire is not a craft, but I think the character of the maker could give some sort of aura to an anonymous mass-produced product. I wanted to design a product that can bring the similar personality of the honesty and warmth of Mr. Ohara.
