METAL TREE SUPPORT
Manufacturing Makes the Most of the Technology
As a casting manufacturer, Hokusei Industry is engaged in manufacturing infrastructure such as water supply and sewerage systems, roads, electricity and telecommunications, as well as tree protection panels and car stop, which support the functions and landscape of cities. In this project, we focused on street tree poles, which have been attracting attention in recent years due to the effects of large typhoons and torrential rains, as part of our search for manufacturing that pursues comfort and safety in urban environments. By reviewing the existing products made of steel pipes and using cast metal, we improved the functionality and design. The development of the product was designed to better express the high technology of Hokusei Industry.
Design Makes the Most of the Production Methods
A Metal Tree Support made by connecting parts produced from a single mold, using the characteristics of casting. The cast ring surrounding the tree is made up of three parts. The parts of the casting have a mechanism that fastens each other with a single bolt while holding the oval steel tube that serves as the pillar and has a shape that allows the belt that supports the tree to pass through. These are the result of repeated investigations into the various functions and conditions required of the product, taking advantage of the characteristics of the materials and manufacturing method. The design, which makes full use of the cast metal, fulfils the necessary functions, while at the same time giving it a clean appearance that blends in with the urban landscape.
Designer's voice
Hokusei Industry’s strength is in manufacturing that quickly responds to the changing times, environment and needs of society. The company contributes to society by manufacturing products that support urban functions and landscapes, through product development for highly public products and reliable production system. In this project, we were able to realize the design through repeated discussions and trial and error. In addition to the knowledge and technical skills that they have accumulated over the years, the responsibility for manufacturing products that support people's daily lives and the desire for a safe and secure society are the reasons for our success.
