Pioneering In-House Product Development with Unparalleled Punching Technology
For nearly 50 years, Sanko-Giken Co., Ltd. has operated as a precision punching specialist in Higashiosaka City. The company excels particularly in ultra-high precision punching of semiconductors and metal materials less than 1mm thick, using patented processing methods. A standout achievement is their work on ubiquitous transit IC cards, where Sanko-Giken exclusively handles the processing of ultra-thin film substrates. Despite shipping over 100 million units, the company has maintained zero defects, demonstrating exceptional quality control. Now, building on this expertise, Sanko-Giken is developing an in-house flagship product to showcase its precision punching technology to a broader audience.
World’s Thinnest Mac Accessories
For a company specializing in industrial processing, the move into consumer products presented a significant challenge. While maintaining focus on core processing expertise, Sanko-Giken entered the consumer market by focusing on add-on products rather than complete items. This led to their concept: the world’s thinnest Mac accessories. The result was “metalSKIN,” which transforms desktop and laptop PC surfaces into whiteboards through ultra-thin metal precisely punched to match PC contours, with proprietary coating technology allowing direct writing with whiteboard markers and easy erasing.
Designer’s voice
What impressed me most is President Tanaka’s spirit of constant challenge, exemplified by his development and marketing of DX applications. How could we showcase to the world the supreme punching technology that Mr. Tanaka has perfected? After thorough consideration, we arrived at Mac accessories as the answer. By creating accessories with precision matching Mac standards—so precise they’re virtually undetectable when applied—I wanted to take on the challenge of achieving and establishing a reputation for “Apple-comparable quality.” Aiming for this new goal, I want to create a new flagship product for 100 million users.
